Why an engagement shoot is a great idea

Most of us aren't used to posing in front of the camera, I always recommend an engagement shoot to my wedding photography clients as it's a great way to get some practice at posing together for photos.
There's no pressure on the engagement shoot so we create a relaxed atmosphere in which we can have fun and take our time making some great photos ahead of the wedding day. I can guide you in to simple and natural poses which you'll feel comfortable in and will look great on camera. This is perfect preparation for making beautiful, natural photos at the wedding as you'll both find being in front of the camera lens again a breeze when you are looking your outstanding on the big day! I will also find out more about the kinds of photos you like and what will make your perfect photos on your wedding day.

The photos themselves are great to incorporate in to your wedding invites or website. You could include them in your wedding guest book for your family and friends to see as they write you their heartfelt messages on the day.

Plus wouldn't it be nice to have some professional photos of the two of you enjoying each others company? These will make wonderful photos of yourselves to keep and to remember such an exciting time in your lives, before you were married, when you were making plans for your perfect life together.

“The photos are so lovely, we will really treasure them.”

Preparation for your engagement shoot

How to choose a location. It's a good idea to choose a location that makes you both happy, somewhere you can be and just feel yourselves, this will make you all the more comfortable and natural on camera.
I recommend out door spaces as they offer greater variety in the photos, try to think of somewhere that has big, open spaces as well as smaller cosy corners or shelters.

It's a good idea to plan to meet in the morning or at a time when there's less people around. This will give the freedom to choose more angles without other people in the background.

How to dress

Try to wear clothes that are similar in style, but don't match: Pick complimentary colours and styles but don't both wear the same colour or you'll blend together! Avoid logos and text on your clothes and try not to wear red as it tends to be overly outstanding in a photo.

What will the shoot involve?

We will meet and take a stroll together at your chosen location and find some interesting spots for you to be pictured in. I'll help you to get comfortable and posed together while I move around, shooting and looking for the most pleasing light and angles and of course.

We will spend one to two hours together. Then within two weeks I'll send you your photos! Digitally developed, colour correct photos are supplied via a secure gallery website and can be downloaded in full, print ready resolution.

I'll also be able to provide prints if required, from standard album sizes up to posters and wall art and wedding guest photo books or any other print ideas you have. Take a look at my printing prices for more info.
