Lizzie & Will's engagement shoot

The rain and grey clouds over Bristol this Sunday morning didn't stop Lizzie and Will looking great on their engagement shoot.

I always recommend an engagement shoot to my clients as it's a great way to get some practice at posing together for photos ahead of the excitement of the big day. Plus it's so nice to have some professional photos of yourselves together in such an exciting time in your lives.

We took a walk in Brandon hill park in Bristol, I love this location as it offers many different types of shots, with tree covered pathways and open views over central Bristol and beyond. There's also the fantastic Cabot tower which served as both a rain shelter and opportunity to shoot the couple with beautiful directional light and 19th century stone walls and arches plus some amazing views of Bristol Uni and more.

The rain threatened to end our fun before we had even started but I find that a rainy day can be so beautiful, the overcast sky gives such a soft and flattering light, the trees and and paths look alive, glistening with reflections and what better whether to hold tight someone you love! So, undeterred, we found sheltered spots under the trees where the couple could be photographed as we made our way to the tower in the centre of the park.

I guided the couple into some natural poses and made sure they felt comfortable, I find that natural poses work really well so that the couple can feel close and comfortable while being themselves. Will and Lizzie were happy and natural in each others arms and I think it really shows in the pictures.

Inside the tower we explored the interesting angles provided by the tightly cornered walls and archways, these create elegant frames around Lizzie and Will in their photos. The bright, cloudy sky provided opportunity for silhouetted photos of the couple against the Bristol skyline, and when shining through the archways the soft directional light gave a cosy space for the couple and illuminated the happiness in their eyes and faces perfectly.

With simple direction I was able to compose natural looking photos with the couple posed together in these beautiful surroundings.

We had a great time together on this rainy morning and made some lovely photos, before retreating for a hot cup of coffee.

”They look great and the overcast colour and exposure has definitely given them a really nice look and feel.”

“Nice to have some swishy photos of us two, thanks for making time for us and doing a great job!“
